WE ARE SMOKERS
A journey from the house to the bus stop.
This short animation is inspired by the city I was living in, Hong Kong, where smoking is considered part of the culture. Wherever one goes, someone will have a lit cigarette. This animation addresses how secondhand smoke is just as harmful as direct smoke, making us practically all smokers.
Process
Initial Character Design
I experimented with different styles before getting my final one.
Character Design
Eventually, I decided on a geometric character. Then I simplified it to the point where the facial features were removed to create a more abstract representation of a person.
Storyboard
For this story, I sketched out various compositions of different scenes. Since it is a more abstract animation, I simply reordered these scenes in a way that would subtly show the journey, while interlacing multiple close up scenes.
