An Exploration of The Automotive Design Industry

My aim for the project was to research into any particular modelmaking industry and then replicate the style of work they produce using any appropriate methods and tools to produce an outcome that closely matches that of the industry professionals. My chosen area was automotive design, with such a vast industry I specifically looked at the automotive sculpting process within the design and prototyping stages. It was a 8 week project to compile a research document, find appropriate design sketches to use as reference material and produce the model putting into practice as much of the information my research uncovered as possible.

The Acrylic arch over the model is a self made plotting device to take a point from one half of the clay model and directly mirror it to the other half aiding me to produce a symmetrical model.
The initial blue foam core before the Chavant clay was built up over the top.
Various markers to assist me in getting an even layer of clay over the entire blue foam core.
None of the drawings belong to me, they are a set of sketches sourced from the internet to allow me to produce a clay model in the style that would be used in the automotive design process.
A selection of tools used for the model including custom made rakes and splines.
Half way there...
Nearly finished...
Fine masking tape to mark out the area for the front windscreen.
