Art My Jozi is a community engagement and public art project spearheaded by the City of Johannesburg, the JDA and The Trinity Session. It takes the form of a series of workshops and community-driven activities which are gradually guided toward public art solutions that are meaningful and relevant to their surroundings.

In response to the brief, I developed a loose, organic illustration style and paired it with bold, approachable type. The illustrations can be reined in for cleaner, more text-heavy applications, or take centre stage. The collateral for each neighborhood takes on visual elements and patterns that belong to that neighborhood.
Noordgesig, bordering on Soweto, is characterised by its proximity to Johannesburg's mine dumps. A sparse backdrop, they give rise to a charming, colourful neighborhood with a strong youth component and sense of community.
Orange Grove is an urban forest, combining a lush, green tree canopy with the high walls and rooftops of suburban architecture.
Brixton is a tapestry of fences, security gates and burglar bars. Individually they may evoke ideas of fear and seclusion, but together they form a striking geometric patchwork.
The Empire/Perth corridor winds East-West from Noordgesig to Parktown, with a rapidly changing horizon line peppered with unique architecture and ever-present greenery.
The Louis Botha corridor runs from the flat industrial landscape of Marlboro in the north to the colourful high rises of Berea in the south.
All together, the landscapes of these neighborhoods blur together to form an abstract quilt of colour and form.
The look and feel extends to site-specific activations, where residents can begin to shape the nature of public art in their neighborhood.
