wir kamen aus dem meer / we came from the sea

Humans and the sea.
There's peace in the water and the deep blue, there's the calming sound of the waves, there's the infinite vastness of the ocean. But there's also the roaring, rising, untamable, deep character of it. It's all of this which makes the sea so fascinating to us humans, probably because it reflects our own self. For most of the people, the sea is a place of calm, of retreat, of recreation, yet the oceans are full of the things we don't need anymore, it became world's largest landfill. More and more trash is floating in the seas and it doesn't only affect plants and animals, but eventually ourselves.

With my series "wir kamen aus dem meer / we came from the sea" I want to show the connection between humans and the sea, especially mankinds paradoxical dealing with its former place of origin - because all life originates from the sea. I often get the feeling that people are indeed are shocked from seeing pictures of tons of plastic trash floating in the oceans, pictures of birds that died of oil spill, however often they only then change something if humans get involved. That's where my series comes in, it turns the tables.
a big thank you goes to horizonte zingst & the bff for having made this project possible.
