A T Ö L G Y E K A L A T T ‒ Museum game celebrating the bicentenary of János Arany's birth
The task was to create a museum game based on one of János Arany's poem as a celebration of the bicentenary of his birth. Because of its spiritual depth and the presence of the nature I choose the poem called 'A tölgyek alatt' - Under the oak trees, and as a student specialized in typography, I was looking for a solution which focuses more on the formal characteristics and structure of the poem. Therefor I came up with the idea of making a mikado wand game. This kind of game fits to the poem well not only by its attitude but also in its method.
The game contains 40 wooden wands, each carrying one detail of the poem. The different length of the different details define the score of each wand. The least valuable carries one line, the most valuable carries a whole verse. From the pile that can be made out of the wands, the player needs to pick up one wand at a time without moving an other wand.
The players can gather points based on the wands they managed to pick up, and can also gain extra points from the coherent verse fragments. The player gathering more points during one game wins.
