REVITALIZATION OF A DEVASTATED SYNAGOGUE IN POZNAŃ AS AN ATTEMPT TO ENGAGE IN DIALOG WITH A HISTORY.
Author: Paulina Joanna Kapturkiewicz
Supervisor: professor Zdzisław Łosiński
The object of this project is an edifice situated in Poznań (Poland) in Wroniecka Street within the old town limits, and its planned conversion into “Dialog’s Center”.
This building, which actually serves the function of a municipal swimming-pool, was originally a synagogue built between 1905-1907.
The design of the “Dialog’s Center” divides the building into two essential parts: cultural centre - opened for general use - and a seat of Jewish commune with a small synagogue. Among other things, the edifice houses a gallery, assembly hall, library and computer centre.
