99% invisible is my favorite design podcast.
I starting listening to it when I developed my thesis project, and since then I haven't stopped, because it makes me learn something new every time. Although I love the program, I always felt that its visual identity doesn't do justice to such a cool name. For that reason I decided to explore some alternatives, which came down to a logo of my favorite kind: the ones with negative space. I though it was appropriate for 99% invisible, as "%" is indeed invisible.
These are some explorations that led me to the final 99pi logotype.
For the structure, I started with two bold 9s and shifted them to form a nice looking %. I shortened the right 9 to create a better balanced 99.
