Saffron Patch Re-Branding

This is a re-branding project from my Corporate ID class at the University of Akron. I selected a local Indian restaurant (whose food was exciting but whose logo was less than exciting) called The Saffron Patch, redesigned the logo, and assigned a visual identity by using a limited color palette of purples and golds and a recurrent floral motif.
These are samples of sketched ideas for the new logo. As an avid typographer, I was intrigued by the Indian alphabet and wanted to incorporate some element of that int the new design. The gold symbol in the finished logo references Indian letterforms and the saffron flower. The restaurant title is Ayosmonika Bold (with significant re-adjustments), while the subhead is in a subdued Trajan Pro.

Since the saffron spice is so central to the restaurant cuisine and identity, I created a floral pattern based on the saffron flower and used it to visually unite a variety of different brand applications (catering menu, invitation, letterhead, webpages, magazine ads, etc).
Before doing this project, I had much interest in but little experience with Indian food. By harvesting some photos from Flickr and doing some research, I was able to write up and design a catering menu that describes in detail every exotic dish for other fledgling Indian-food-lovers.
And to slake my hunger for craft and materials, I designed and constructed an invitation for an 18th-year anniversary for the restaurant, using gold and metallic purple cardstock, vellum, and a woven fabric that matched perfectly with the new color scheme. I also hand-embroidered the gold flower on a waiter's apron for a final exquisite touch.
