"Pasărea Măiastră" is somehow the Roumanian version of the Pheonix - The bird lives on the Other Realm and she's considered the queen of birds and it is believed that she delivers messageg to fairies. She is pretty rare, having supernatural powers. Because she is unique in the world, she only shows herself to special individuals. It is said that her song would make any person who'd hear it younger.
"Muma Pădurii" literally means "the Mother of the Forest". She is a spirit of the forest in a very ugly and old woman's body. Sometimes she has the ability to change her shape. She lives in a dark, dreadful, hidden little house. She is thought to attack children, and because of this, a large variety of spells are used against her. This (step-) mother of the forest kidnaps little children and enslaves them. In one of the popular stories, at some point, she tries to boil a little girl alive, in a soup.
"Drăgaica" - Romanian celebration that takes place on the 24th of June. The name is derived from the slavonic word “dragă” (meaning beautiful, darling). The renowed writer Mircea Eliade thought that their origins are from a roman cult dedicated to the goddess Diana (Sanctae Dianae), worshiped just the same in Dacia (n.a. ancient pre-Romanian civilisation). Drăgaica would walk the earth or float in mid air in the day of the summer solstice and she would delight herself with songs and dance along her nuptial procession made of beautiful maiden fairies, over fields and woods.
Son of the mythological character "Baba Dokia", Dragobete, the Romanian patron of love, is celebrated on the 24th of February. This celebration is the Romanian equivalent of St. Valentine's. Magical entity similar to Eros or Cupid, Dragobete is different to his "cousins" - he is a handsome young man is the protector of animals and birds who start their mating rituals during this time of year. In time, he became the protector of love and life-lasting friendship.
