Infinite X is a student organization behind OPENX and TEDxCUC events. Rotate copies of X build up the skeleton of primary logo. So it's infinite as it rotates. Also, it represents the infinite changes just like looking into a kaleidoscope.
The key color is picked using TED red as a referencing. I've lightened it up quite a bit to make it suitable for filling in any large area.
For the fonts, I chose Nixie One and Hanyi Tiexian Hei because they all have its unique serifs which add a great sense of personality to the whole design. They also help me finish the final touch of Icon System.
Infinite X has held a lot of events before. Create a universal icon system for all of these events soon became necessary.
I got inspiration from the seal on the letters. The seal can help connect two pieces of paper and merge them as one to protect content inside. So it would be great to have a 'seal' help me connect the key color square and events photos grid.
Soon a system was developed. The graphic content of each icon is the essence of each event visual design. The shape is as simple as possible to build up the feeling of a mark made by a stamp.
I used two overlapping squares to hold the title and some key shots to display a basic summary of each event. I didn't use any button shapes when designing the website. Thus I get to keep the feeling that all contents are on a sheet of paper.
The whole layout of event page was developed based on square shape. In this way, I'm able to make all the components works together pretty well.
To produce a surprise and make some contrast, I add a very detailed illustration of a school building. It could break the strong visual appearance chain of red squares. And also give any possible attendee a brief image of where the event will take place.
Some early stage prototypes.

Thanks for watching.
