A to Z of advertising

It’s said Art is Exploration. And the exploration begins with an inspiration. The following project is my exploration into the concepts, ideas, schools of thought, point-of-views, and techniques of art that has inspired me over my life as a designer and commercial artist.

Every alphabet in this series corresponds to a single-minded concept and my take on it.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I have through the creative process.

Inspirations: Tate, Usblackart, MoMA, Visual Ideas

A - Art Brut; (Ray Ban)
Art brut is a term used to describe drawings, paintings and any other form of art done by untrained or amateur artists.
Here's an example of the style, used to give one of the most famous eyewear brands a makeover.
B - Bauhaus; (Nike)

One of the most influential modern art movement of the 20th century. Its aim was to bring art back into contact with everyday life, and architecture, performing arts, design and applied arts were therefore given as much weight as fine art.
C - Circle; (Nescafe)

The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness and timelessness.
Here, I've tried to focus on one such circle that is pretty prominent in our everyday lives, the cup rings.
D - Double Exposure; (Save the whales)
This is an art style which involves superimposing two images, usually done to add character to the subject or hint at a deeper meaning.
E - Expressionism; (Heinz)

It refers to art in which the image of reality is distorted in order to make it expressive of the artist’s inner feelings or ideas
F - Foreshortening; (Charles & Keith)

The use of perspective to represent in art the apparent visual contraction of an object that extends back in space at an angle to the perpendicular plane.
G - Generated Art; (Bose)

Generative art refers to art that in whole or in part has been created with the use of an autonomous system.
H - Hands; (Fender)

Handprints were the first marks early humans left on the wall of the caves, way before people started drawing or making pattern. Everyone has individual hands and fingerprints. They are a record of uniqueness for every individual.
I - Irony; (Kitkat)

The use of words to convey the opposite of their literal meaning. A statement or situation where the meaning is contradicted by the appearance or presentation of the idea.
J - Juxtaposition; (Kindle)

The act of placing or positioning items in the image area side by side or next to one another to illustrate some comparison.
K - Kitsch;

Art characterised by vapidly sentimental, often pretentious poor taste. It is typically clumsy, repetitive and slickly commercial.
L - Line Art; (Staedtler)

Line art is any image that consists of distinct straight and curved lines placed against a (usually plain) background, without gradations in shade (darkness) or hue (colour) to represent two-dimensional or three-dimensional objects. Line art can use lines of different colours, although line art is usually monochromatic.
M - Movie Reference; (Colgate)

Popular movies are highly influential and are universal reference points. The public's knowledge of movies and the deep affection in which many are held means they've frequently been used as a source of idea.
N - Nostalgia; (Havells)

A sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past. Here nostalgia has been used in form of long copy ads, which were very popular in '80s
O - Optical / Op Art; (Sony)

Op are is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. Op art works are abstract, with many better known pieces created in black and white. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns, or of swelling or warping.
P - Puns; (888 Poker)

The humorous use of a word or phrase so as to emphasise or suggest its different meanings or applications, or the use of words that are alike or nearly alike in sound but different in meaning; a play on words.
Q - Question; (WWF)

Asking question in turn leads to the awareness about the cause.
R - Reflection; (McDonald's)

An image given back by a reflecting surface, such as that of a mirror or still waters.
S - Shadow; (Duracell)

Using shadow as a form to show the juxtaposition amongst foreground and background (which is the subject)
T - Torn image;

Tearing away a section of image reveals an under layer and a sense of comparison is created between the top and the bottom layer.
U - Unity; (BBG India)

Organising of parts so that all contributed to a coherent whole. It is the combined result of all principles of design.
V - Vector Art (Lotus)

A graphic made up of mathematically defined curves and line segments called vectors. Vector graphics can be edited by moving and resizing either the entire graphic or the lines and segments that compose the graphic. Vector graphics can be reduced and enlarged with no loss of resolution.
W - Wordplay; (UNHR)

Exploitation of the meanings and ambiguities of words.
(Translation: "We are people, just like you. God bless us all.")
X - X-Ray; (Clarks)

These are used for medical as well as security purpose to reveal what the eyes cannot see.
Y - Yourself;

Exercise for finding your true self.
Z - Zoomorphic Art; (Gucci)

Art that imagines humans as non-human animals. Art that portrays one species of animal like another species of animal.
Thank You
