Emoji stools are ready to assemble stools made of Baltic birch plywood that do not require any fasteners or adhesives for construction, nor are any “foreign” parts, pieces or materials. All parts and components are cut on the CNC machine from a single plywood sheet (30” x 60” x 0.5”)

Since I used plywood for this project, I wanted to design a furniture that is “Easy”:
Easy to produce, Easy to assemble, and Easy to use.

Yet, I also want my furniture to reflect my personality. Inspired by Emoticons, I tried to show a sense of play and humor.

Eyes are the joints for both of the stools. For the first stool (angry face), trapezoid part creates the tension that strongly holds the two legs jointed together with the top.
The second stool (sad face) does not have a trapezoid part. As this stool has more parts than the first stool, I thought adding trapezoid part may be too cumbersome for the user. Instead, I changed the angle of the eyes-hole slightly less than 90°. This angle creates a tension that holds those legs strongly.
Half Scale Models & Assemble
I had to make a lots of half scale models in order to figure out the right tensions for the joints. In fact, calculations are rarely so clear cut. They do not exactly match either set of expectations.

Thank you.
