We were assigned the task to research, design and develop a working application for our dissertation. Our idea was to create a tourism-based web project developed with the use of emergent technologies in web design and visual media. The application we created is an interactive, animated website of touring Ireland, where users can explore multiple tourist attractions around the island, using various media content such as virtual tours, 360° content, and area specific information.

Once the user enters the website, they embark on their journey to explore Ireland. Users can either simply scroll through each location linearly or choose a location of their choice. Fourteen tourist locations were chosen in total, four of those featuring exclusive media content, completing a full circuit of the island of Ireland.

The website is designed to be as unique as possible, taking inspiration from research undertaken and modern web design, with a lot of time given to aesthetic features and functionality such as the animated location avatars, the map on the right side of the screen, and the Tayto Park interactive map.

The website is designed using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and developed in Microsoft Visual Studio using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Video content was shot using a GoPro Hero 4, and 360° video and photography content was captured using the Samsung Gear 360. All footage was edited in Final Cut Pro X, and 360° content was stitched together using Samsung mobile application.
