Fires raged across the Garden Route of the Western Cape of South Africa last week. Over 800 firefighters came to the area's aid. One of the hardest hit, the town of Knysna lost between 500-600 homes to the blaze. Pictured here is the immediate aftermath and destruction of the fires.The town is a famous holiday destination, famed for it's beautiful, world-class beaches and annual Oyster Festival. Among the worst hit were wealthy areas, the landscapes are littered with the ruins of massive houses I found haunting.
