I found Jirka through Behance, through his portfolio of Disney princesses in real life. I could see that kind of eye working well for Churchill. All the competing titles were using variations on the same black and white images. I wanted to break out of that. I worked with Hillsdale College to pick out iconic photos of Churchill from different stages of his life, and then had Jirka colorize and remaster them.

The type is Robert Slimbach's Kepler family—clear-speaking, well constructed, I felt like it had some Churchillian eloquence to it.

The series got over a quarter of a million downloads when we launched it.

Great collaborative process with the client and with Jirka—this was also the first time I tried Dan Mall's element-based design process for a "post-comp world."
