Sanctuary

The majority ofAustralians are only subjected to news on asylum seekers when there isdiscussion on the issue in Parliament and media reports of boat sightings. Wearen’t informed about the war-torn countries from where these people have fled andthe many years it has taken to escape. Asylum seekers and refugees aredehumanised by the media—labelled boat people, illegals and queue jumpers whenthey haven’t committed a criminal offence; sent to detention centres to beprocessed as if they were serving time in prison. Their actions are a resort ofdesperation, there is nothing left to live for except the hope of being in abetter country.
