Piraeus University of Applied Sciences

This is a case study project for the visual identity of the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences.

The design process is influenced by two elements that are connected with the values of the university. One of them is knowledge, a value that is portrayed by a book. The other one is the timelessness of the Greek technology which is portrayed by a trireme, an ancient Greek invention that pushed the technological limits of the ancient world. Some fundamentals of the trireme' s design included accommodations, propulsion, weight and waterline, the centre of gravity and stability, strength, and feasibility. All of these variables are dependent on one another.

A necessary condition for a trireme to work was a combination of technology and management. The two schools of the university teach the students precisely these two fundamentals.

The primary colour is Navy Blue because of the maritime origin of the main symbol of the visual identity. Gold Yellow is used as a complementary colour. A graphic system has been created out of the utilisation of the three diagonal stripes from the university's mark and it is used in almost all the applications.
