L'espace. Lacoste, France.

L'espace

Revived from Pierre Cardin’s quarry, L’espace is a hybrid of a public space, cafe and a local art gallery. It blends the idea of the indoor and outdoor by providing a glass encased gallery and an enclosed public space. The space is aimed for locals, and the wandering tourists of Lacoste- young couples, families and retired couples. It is intended for those who enjoy the outdoors, admires art, and would like a space to spend time and relax, or who would like an area for a meeting point. It seeks to create a better community by providing a space in which allows people to gather.

The space is based on the concept of the collected chaos in which Lacoste is built from. The design is an abstract representation of its history through the ruling of multiple civilizations. Throughout its turbulent series of events, the village has been embraced by the arts. The nature and rawness of the quarry acts as an exhibition itself and is embraced throughout the design. The project meshes these tiers of history together to honor the past and present Lacoste, to help build for the future.
