Hand-lettering on Skillshare
The what and the why
Type design is something I wish to do. Letters and languages interest me so I was naturally drawn to a class on Skillshare called The Golden Secrets of Hand-Lettering: Create the Perfect Postcard by Martina Flor. She is my second-favourite hand-letterer.
I knew from the beginning I wanted to bring some culture into my piece in one way or another. I wanted it to evoke a feeling of the Danish beaches, but it should also have a hint of our beloved author H. C. Andersen. Danmark is how we spell Denmark in Danish.
The how
When I had drawn one sketch, I corrected it by layering another piece of tracing paper on top of it. I scanned my final sketch at 600 dpi, and I opened it in Illustrator. I traced my letters manually, turned my template off and corrected my letters as much as needed. I used plugins by Astute Graphics: InkScribe and VectorScribe. They give me much more control over my paths.
