This is a capstone project for my graduate thesis, and I intended to design a candle product system which introduces the concept of Wabi-sabi with visual and material elements through the imperfect aesthetic experience.
The brand name of this candle holder collection is “half en”, which means “half circle” or “hemisphere” in Japanese (半円:はんえん).
Different materials and textures were attempted to bring to peoples’ comprehension of Wabi-sabi through visual perception. Other than the visual matters, the exploration of observing wax dissolves put material transformation into an essential component in the thesis solution.
