In 1952, John Cage, American composer, devised a musical play, which can be perfomed by any instrument, in any way and by anyone. In the piece untitled 04:33, the interpreters sit in silence in front of their instruments during the whole perfomance (4min. 33secs.), the environment sounds form the music. The artist proves the non-existance of silence.
A year before, he carried out the experiment of enterring inside an Anechoic Chamber in the Harvard University, hoping to find the silence. He wrote:”…I heard two sounds, a grave one and a high one. I descrive it to the engineer, an he explained to me that the high sound it was because of my nervious system, and the grave one for my blood circulation. There will be sound until my death, and it will continue after. We don’t have to worry for the future of music.”
6825f., is a visual interpretation of Cage’s masterpiece by means of the enlargement of the parts of the body and listening to the sounds produced during 6.825 frames, (4min.33secs), from the concept that the unconnected and inaudible sounds produced by the individual are creating the music, imperceptible, but eternal.
