Accordian storytelling

ABC
A story of a child and his Identity
As part of a design project a group of students had to create a story format fully described through typography. We were restricted to three typefaces FUTURA, KOHINOOR AND TRAJAN. This accordion is an exploration of the concept of childhood in India. One side of the accordion narrates a story based out of common knowledge, of two children, one belonging to a privileged lifestyle with access to education and personal freedom, while the other forced out of these basic entitlements and employed into child labor for his own survival. The illustrations are entirely made with keyboard characters and alphabets alone, stylistically inspired by R. K. Laxman’s illustrative depiction of Malgudi Days, by R. K. Narayan. The other side depicts the statistics of education drop outs and child labor in every state in India.
