The Brief
Create a tribute for one of the following classic selected texts: The Island of Doctor Moreau by H. G. Wells, The Fall (French La Chute) by Albert Camus, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules
The Solution
For the brief I chose “The Fall by Albert Camus” this book has many themes present throughout. The one that I felt best represented the book was the theme of Hypocrisy. To display the theme of hypocrisy I chose to express this through an exhibition. The exhibition is named “You Hypocrite” with the tag line “Exposing the Everyday Hypocrite” with the goal to make any guest to the exhibition see that they are a hypocrite. The logo represents the two faced theme of the personality of a hypocrite. It gives a preview to the two typefaces used throughout the exhibition. The lettering type behind is pushing through to represent a hypocrite being exposed and showing through the lies. The name “You Hypocrite” is given to make a guest instantly feel like they are being told what type of person they are and in a way almost shaming that guest into thinking that they are indeed a hypocrite.
Politics Room
The politics room. A room to help visitors to understand how much hypocrisy is present in the field of politics and expose the truth behind some of the worlds most prominent leaders. This will also show that people who do not like how their current government is run but don’t vote in elections and support a party they feel shows their views to help make a change. Touch screen boards will be around this room to expose more information about the hypocrite leaders.
Environment
Hypocrisy is present in all areas where the environment is involved, it could be a hypocrite telling others that are not recycling correctly or a hypocrite in the spotlight such as some celebrities who state that they are trying to save the environment but are damaging it as much as the everyday individual. Recycling will be a focus here where the visitor will be challenged to recycle into multiple bins, this will make the visitor feel that they know what they are doing but will in fact expose how they truly don’t know. Multiple celebrity examples are posted around the room to show the hypocrisy.
Charity
Charity can be associated with hypocrisy aswell, as we all like to say we donate to charity and part with our money or buy products that donate a percentage to charity, but do we truly want to part with our money? This room will demonstrate situations of us all either ignoring charity or showing our honest opinions about what we think of donating.
Child Labour
When asking an individual whether they buy clothing that is made by children and do they agree with child labour many will say no. Although the everyday individual will say these answers they will still purchase goods from many stores that do use child labour. This room will ask the question first with an interactive question then leading around the room the visitor will see all the brands that still use child labour and will make the visitor feel that they truly have been a hypocrite stating they would never buy a product made by children.
