Oils and Acrylic; a love, hate relationship

I painted this piece specifically for an exhibition I held with two of my peers. I wanted to include this piece because of the sheer size of the canvas; I had also hand made this canvas and thought it would make a great impact being situated in a gallery. It's visually not my favorite painting I have produced because I was limited by time, this ended up me having to re-think my usual way of composition and media. For the composition, I shone a studio light over the canvas and cast shadows with my 2D sculptures to determine the composition. I really enjoyed this way of working as it let me play with the idea of working my sculptures into my paintings without having them physically there. It also let me be spontaneous with the placement of this composition. Using acrylic and oil was a new step for my work. I have never been fond of acrylic, as I feel it drys too quickly and doesn't has a lustrous feel to it, but using it as a base really worked for me in this instance because it created some really beautiful involuntary drips that helped me fill the canvas. It did make it harder to keep to a strict colour palette as it made me want to experiment with more colour and texture and see what the two colour bring together, but it has shown me the potential of using acrylic.
