LIFE TRILOGY - The Mirror

Unlike physical objects that we can discard, we leave traces of our past everywhere. With so much digital clutter, it is difficult to maintain a coherent narrative of the self (Tim H.,2016). In spite of biological self-existence, we also exist in data by creating a digital or a social self. Since now the social media became extremely popular, we are more willing to create a piece of me online as our self-components. Our self-existence is interpreted and reflected back to us by others we meet in daily life (Cooley, C.H., 1992).

Correspondingly, exist in data is a two-way communication since we create data while we are affected by data in the same time. In 2015, Russell Belk present a concept Imirror, which indicated that social media now is a mirror reflecting our social self-existence(Belk, R., 2015). Then, how can we really see the reflective image in the mirror?

Remote control in the wooden box was used for people to rate their interestingness of the social media information from the subject. Accordingly, The “digital self” of the subject will brighten up or dim down as the number change.
