ROWDY

row×dy
/’roudē/

adjective
noisy and disorderly.
“it was a rowdy but good-natured crowd”

Rowdy is a local business based in Cape Town that produces leather bags from their own factory in Woodstock. A twenty-year-old with a big idea. Rowdy saw the obvious gap in the local market and took the opportunity to design and make 100%, naturally plant dyed, genuine leather bags.

Rowdy needed a place to sell their bags but they realized that selling to retail stores meant it would double the selling price. This creates a direct disconnect between the producer and the customer. Their solution was to sell their timeless bags at Markets – starting with none other than Cape Town’s hip and happening Old Biscuit Mill.

Problem
The word Rowdy means to be noisy but their bags are a complete contradiction of this. The Rowdy designs are simple and elegant. Their advertising does not venture past social media and few people other than alternative market goers know about them.

Solution
Our solution was to use the contradiction of the loud brand name ‘Rowdy’ and the quiet simplicity of their leather bags to create a breathing space for the consumer and viewer.

Message
In an overwhelmingly cluttered world one needs to re-discover, re-awaken and re-appreciate the simple things in life.
