Reflection: Process Visualization

Since you cannot save multiple drafts of an Adobe Spark page, I will tell you here what separates my new Process Visualization from my old one. First, I included a "why" at the end of my timeline explaining my purpose for this project and why my audience should care about it. When I originally turned in my project, one of the critiques I was given was that the information that I provided wasn't quantifiable enough. So to change this, in each 'point' on the timeline I wrote down how many days each part of the process would take. Overall, I estimated that it takes about a month to become 'Internet famous' but of course, this varies from person to person. I figured by having numbers, my audience would take my visualization more seriously. For the steps that had multiple slides/images, I included a little bit of extra explanation so that if it wasn't clear the first time, the audience definitely understands now.  I believe that my edits add more detail and help my final project become more well-rounded.
For this project specifically, I looked to the works for Tufte and Roam for advice. More broadly, however, I always kept my purpose and the audience at the forefront of my mind. What would be the best way for them to understand how a YouTube video gets made? Since I mainly used text in my brochure, I decided that the best thing to do for this project was to take a more visual stance. I made sure that all of the pictures that I was using were visually appealing and all correlated to one another. I looked at the CRAP principles and decided that I did want to have contrast in the pictures that I chose. I wanted some to be more realistic and others to be more abstract. This way, the audience wouldn't get bored with the monotony of the images and see that my idea can be shown both in real life and on the page/sketch pad. They would be entertained while being informed about how to make a 'viral' video.
I believe that this version of my process visualization is better than my previous one because it provides depth. While the pictures are very pretty and interesting and get a person's attention, the details and numbers I added really tie everything together. By making my deliverable more quantifiable,  I was able to answer the "why?"  and "how much/many?" of Roam's questions. This helps strengthen my purpose and keeps my audience happy. By improving this deliverable, I hope to show my audience that I am serious about my topic and that it is something that should be taken seriously and could even be researched academically! Many people overlook YouTube as an Internet superpower, but I believe that it is a force to be reckoned with. It can help many people on the road to stardom and can change their lives forever.
