Vinylize!
This is my work for an exhibition and book release called Vinylize!, organized by my agent Shop Around and Concerto Amsterdam. The idea was to re-imagine and customise well-known record sleeves. I chose The War of the Worlds by Jeff Wayne, as I love the story, the music, the movies and last but not least the original record sleeve itself, shown below.
My idea was to make a more colorful and friendly explosion, as if the aliens would shoot brightly colored bubblegum to fight the human race!
I scanned in the sleeve and after a quick sketch in Photoshop I used Illustrator to draw shapes. Then the drawing was exported to Photoshop again to add shading.
When the drawing was done I printed out the main explosion and some extra elements in case I wanted to experiment with different compositions. Time to start cutting and pasting!
Here's the finished sleeve and the book! All sleeves will be auctioned on May 19 at Concerto Amsterdam and the proceeds will go to The Ocean Cleanup Project.
