Tractor project for the Valtra Design Challenge 2017
Theme: What is your vision for tractor in 2040?
The Valtra L concept is developed around the idea to transform the tractor into a management station. The driver has a role of leader over his field, controlling the work quality and assigning tasks. For this reason, the main tractor is assisted by drones, controlled from the cabin. With the good visibility from the cabin and the possibility of vertical extension, the driver is in a control tower to see over the drones. From the cabin the driver has access to information necessary to take care of his fields and he can stay in contact with his partners. Autonomous driving gives the driver time to focus on important tasks that he can do from the control centre of the cabin.

In order to lower emissions over the fields, the tractor uses an electric drivetrain with a removable battery pack. The electric drivetrain allows high torque at low speed. Battery packs are stored on the fields, recharged by energy harvested from the plants.
The articulated front axle serves as steering and sideway movement to avoid soil compaction.
