The history of Science Fiction Bokhandeln (The Science Fiction Bookshop) begins in the early 1980s when it was first founded by a few science fiction enthusiasts in a basement in Stockholm. The bookshop has grown over time through the enthusiasm of its many customers and employees. Today they are one of the leading stores in Sweden in their line of expertise and offers a wide range of products and activities for science fiction, fantasy and horror enthusiasts.

With our redesign of the brand, we wanted to highlight the community of the store and create a graphical profile and communication that reflected their sense of humor and unique atmosphere. We wanted to create new digital solutions to increase the community feeling and make it easier for customers to meet and share their interest with others. The redesign offers a complete user experience from the moment you visit the website, to the moment you walk out of the store.

Magazine

A product catalog is today published by the bookstore. Instead of this, we wanted to give the members a magazine that contains the latest articles and news in genres and categories that the bookstore manages.

Since the magazine contains well written articles, by the experts at Science Fiction Bokhandeln, the members receives a magazine with its own edge and well curated content. 


Web and app

The webshop is a major part of their business as many choose to order books and other products from the web. It is also the perfect source to read about the latest news in the book, series and film industry that deals with science fiction, fantasy and horror. 

The bookshop publishes a lot of articles and news, and therefore, we wanted to create a network for all this and came up with SF-NET. It is a collective place where Science Fiction bokhandeln publishes their news, offers, events and more.

This is also a social network for their users. Where you can create your profile and character, make friends and take part of the community like never before.​​​​​​​

We have looked at new ways for the web shop to be as personal as it is when you enter one of the stores. Therefore we are working with personal recommendations for the user, both based on what they like but also with something called “Månadens samling” (Collection of the Month). This is a monthly collection of various products that the staff wants to highlight or suggest.

User

The user has a major role in the bookstore's new website, which brings together everything that affects you. During the creation of the user account you choose which genres you are most interested in and will then receive notifications and recommendations based on this.

You start as the captain of your ship, SF-Scout Shuttle, and get new titles and ships the higher rank you get. You also get more offers which can be applied to your account. By gaining points and achievement you climb higher up in rank. This can be, for example, by purchasing 15 fantasy books and becoming fantasy fan.
