novum 05.17 »regional design«

The more globalized and connected our societies get, the more we appreciate products and designs which have a local touch. Our May issue therefore focuses on »regional design«.

The design of the cover: Isolation is not an option. The designers from studio Moby Digg are convinced that we have to get connected, that borders should disappear and that we need to show more social responsibility. The design of this month's novum cover reflects this notion and symbolizes diversity and connectivity.

Social responsibility is also one of the guiding principles of PaperWise, the paper we used for the cover of novum 05.17. Peter van Rosmalen asked himself one day why paper is made of wood, whereas agricultural waste is burnt although it contains cellulose too. So the Dutch paper specialist founded a start-up and managed after years of research to produce a paper made of straw and sticks. The CO2-footprint of PaperWise is fantastic and small farmers in India now have a new source of income. A remarkable story of diligence and social engagement.
