I made this lamp in 2015 for an assignment. I didn't know much about materials and construction then but I was pretty satisfied with the way it came out.
We were free to do whatever we wanted, and I settled on a nature/geometry theme with this. At the time, I was particularly enamored by the beauty of sailfish. I felt trapped by work and I longed for the freedom I saw in them. For the front, I came up with some quick sketches and settled on the design you see above: a simplified caricature of a sailfish mid-jump.
The rest of the lamp is meant to evoke the feel of winter. My mind always longs for the calm of cold, and I wanted to feel the serenity of Switzerland again. The colors and shapes are meant to suggest buildings and trees; a sort of melding between the city and the countryside from when I was there in the winter of 2014.
Unfortunately, I only took a handful of photos and they weren't the best quality.
Thank you for viewing!
