"Kućica u Ježevu" (Little House in Ježevo) was created as one of cooperation projects between the University of Zagreb Design School and the Centre for Peace Studies, dealing with the education of children through an interpretation of the popular children's story in context of asylum seekers. Shelter for foreigners 'Ježevo' is first place that immigrants who come to Croatia visit. The visual interpretation of the symbolics based on elements of the story "Ježeva kućica" (Hedgehog's Little House) was used to design a picture book made from one piece of paper. The front side includes the content of story, and the back side a labyrinth with points for discussion. By folding the paper, the story can be read as a picture book or an interactive background can be created to solve a labyrinth that encourages conversation with children. The project points to importance of considering design in context of society, the idea of human rights and social change, and relies on the present state of migration and refugees in the world. This work attempts to raise awareness on issues of prejudice, xenophobia and racism, which can be systematically eliminated through education, beginning with the lowest grades.
