Wego: an adaptable electric bicycle for two

PROJECT GOAL

This project was for a class at ArtCenter College of Design in 2011. The prompt was 'electric wheels for the year 2020'.




CONCEPT

'Wego' is an adaptable electric bicycle for two that allows young people to integrate biking into their social lives.

In speaking with young people across the US, I was able to identify a demographic that was currently underserved by the bicycle market and likely to be receptive to a new product. In interviews with this group, I learned that they often experience biking as an impediment to their social lives, as it disconnects them from friends and partners who don’t bike.   
    
 Wego transforms from a normal bike to one that can carry a passenger, with a back rack that easily flips open into a second seat when needed. It uses cutting-edge materials currently in development to conceal its ‘e-bike-ness’ in a lightweight road-bike style.
