I was looking at this as a metaphor representing how colonizers colonize countries by infiltrating their cultures and inserting their own beliefs and systems to make it easier for them to colonize. Whether it is done through language, disciplinary methods, or infrastructure, it is in all cases imposing their own views, ways and methods on the colonized. Sometimes it is done in a “friendly” way, we are here to help you and we want to help you realize the potential of your country, when in fact it’s all for selfish purposes. News agencies also deliver news in a matter of fact tone, and they make you believe that that are making things easy for you, we deliver the news at your doorstep, we better inform you. The biggest proof of the biases that exist between the different newspapers is the front page, the different headlines picked and how the same incident is reported differently across different news.

I used this medium to curate my research, and simply by structuring it in a very formal well thought order, I make it seem very important and very informative. By condensing some text, and making some bigger and easier to read I easily direct the reader’s eyes where I want it to go. I use images to make room for breathing and I use color for a more playful tone. Notice the first three pages are mostly black and white with only a hint of colour in prep for what comes next and to keep the consistency but the black and white is intended to show the seriousness of the colonization concept and its detrimental impact on colonized people. The text of Mitchell is very eye opening and reveals important information regarding colonization. My first project was also black and white mostly, except for some coloured bacteria parts, and so the first part discussing project one, Contamination, complements the aesthetics of that project. The following two pages incorporate more colour and more sketches to show my thought process which was a mess but I transcribed it all and cleaned everything up for a formal look. Pages six and seven incorporate a lot more colour to show the playfulness of my second project, Francoptien. I decided to curate my definitions this time in a crossword puzzle because this is a major part of any newspaper. And then finally the last page balances the two projects, shows a picture of each, and includes Lewis’ feedback because I find it to be a crucial part of my project. His feedbacks are constructive, and highlights potential and alternative ways of approaching the projects. And then a final note on my semester with Lewis in Graphic Design 4.

Notice my newspaper is formal looking, yet it is more on the modern side as opposed to an old New York Times look to allow for flexibility in curating my process.
