Multilingual design magazine about experimental type and graphics from all over the world, combining Chinese, Arabic and Latin writing systems. // Interview in "Novum — World of Graphic Design 08.17"
During my Master studies I worked out a theoretical analysis of globalization, transculturality and the role designers play in this context.
In my Master thesis I wanted to transfer these outcomes into the design sector: It’s about intercultural networks, visualizing abstract topics and trying to contribute positively to our recent world situation through design. So I created a multilingual design magazine about experimental type and graphics from all over the world, using Chinese, Arabic and English language.
The magazine called Mixtype is addressed to young designers and indicates a way to combine three completely different writing systems in just one magazine.
After doing detailed research about Arabic and Asian graphic design and the use of Arabic and Chinese script, I found a way to integrate the opposite reading direction into the layout without treating one of them preferentially.
The motif of overlay, overlap and mixture is taken up through design using transparency, color gradients and typographic accentuation.
