The concept for this poster is to identify several art movements from the last century, each characterized by a manifesto written by artists from these periods. By using contrast, negative space, minimal color, size, and direction, the poster is controlled by a system of hierarchy.
Iterations
The first set of iterations explores the properties of hierarchy and division of text. Without the use of color, the compositions are controlled by how the text is placed and what information is meant to be perceived first.
As I approached the next phase of iterations, the use of color composed the outcome. With a dominating red, the entire composition drastically changes and is fully influenced by negative space. One of the iterations also utilizes a second color, which adds a hierarchical element and changes the initial perception of the poster.

The first poster in this set is a refinement in layout and use of color. By swapping out the bold red for the background, the composition is less controlled by the background color. It alleviates the intensity of color and resorts back to the initial goal of hierarchy in the type. The following poster is a drastic change in layout and concept. With the use of vertical and horizontal lines, the idea of movement is introduced and adds to the hierarchy of information.
Final Solutions
The final design is the cumulation of ideas and outcome of several iterations exploring color, size, position, and hierarchy. The piece communicates structure and division of information through planned and organized design. Each movement is broken down and given a certain amount of importance due to the evaluation of hierarchy.
