Hassaan Bin Shaheen's Stand-up Comedy Special
This design was done with a lot of love for one of my favourite people, who got me into performing comedy, has always been a bottomless pit of knowledge and support. Hassaan Bin Shaheen is a lawyer, stand-up comedian and an improviser! He is so fantastic and now he is gearing up to do an hour long special! This design was meant to incorporate all of these facets of his life.
I really enjoyed the evolution of the design, as the result was very unexpected for me. So I'm also excited to share the process.
The typefaces I worked with were Avenir and Hijrnotes. Hijrnotes is not for commercial use and requires tweaking.
Process
Clearly, I'm having way too much fun. But seriously, the biggest challenge for me was to get the smile. Also this grid is a lot of fun.
I had thought I was pretty done at the left one, but then Hassaan requested if I could make the name clearer. Begrudgingly I proceeded and magic happened where the type and illustration married each other. It was a healthy relationship.
