Visualeyed / Satellites orbiting planet Earth

VISUALEYED | Satellites orbiting planet Earth
An interactive exploration of what's going on in the nearest outer space
According to the Index of Objects Launched into Outer Space maintained by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), there are more than 4.256 satellites currently orbiting our planet. Of those, only 1.419 are operative while the remaining 2.837 don’t return data to the Earth anymore and are therefore added to the count of space debris.
This interactive visualization displays all the operative satellites launched in orbit from 1989 to June 2016. The filters allow to investigate the satellite’s orbit, main purposes, users, owning countries, names and much more.
