3D Render completely worked over

an approach I like a lot to create Illustrations is to use 3D render passes, layer them and grab my Wacom-Pen for final touches.

This "layered technique" hides the pure 3D look and gives a lot of artistic freedom in altering and modifying the image integrating digital painting, images and visual effects over the rendered 3D files.
I used Cinema 4D for the 3D scene, Affinity Designer to add some subtle background-graphics and Affinity Photo to bring everything together.

this illustration is a personal project and was printed on canvas as a present for my brother who moved to the big city confronting new challenges.
