In recent years, I am focusing on book illustration and design and its application in a wider visual environment. I am researching various media, materials and techniques which could co-exist in a mutual synergy. For the last two years my work revolves around analog interactive, printed book illustration which is based on pre-cinema techniques.
The characteristics of modern time is that the fast technological development leads to diminishment of old techniques and an ever expanding use of digital ones. A similar occurrence resides in the field of book illustration – the old techniques are no longer developed and researched, on the contrary, they are doomed to be forgotten. I feel that because of this simplification of workflow and procedures there is a rising gap between the artist and the product. With my work I try to find this gap and make use of it by expanding the use of analog interactive techniques which tend to enrich the printed medium in a way digital ones cannot.
