generative experimentation

meta-play
fields, networks, and fragments
In this age of complexity and its emergence of the realm “metamedia,” the role of designer has expanded beyond the confines imposed by various licensing acts and fields of specialization. The development of the hyperdigital realm, with its advances in software that facilitate new strategies and generate new applications and outcomes in architecture and design has made possible fresh interpretations of synthetic conditions that were previously impossible to achieve.

The complexity of technology should be anything but intimidating, cold and regimented; it does not exist in a vacuum. it is, after all, a man-made and therefore crafted entity. As designers, it provides us with the opportunity to break out from the grid; complex forms derived from various algorithms can capture our imagination and inspire us to higher levels of production and creativity. We are given the power of choice to be innovators, thinkers, and visual philosophers; in a sense, we are continuing the tradition of Dada, fusing together seemingly disparate disciplines, materials and other elements to create a cohesive whole. This unformed generic can later be given meaning and content; Leonardo DiVinci writes “For you must understand that if only you have hit off such an untidy composition it will give all the more satisfaction when it is later clothed in the perfection appropriate to all its parts.”
