Andy Smith Inspired TV Guide | Layout Design
This project that began in late March was based around designing a new front cover of the British TV Guide magazine, alongside a mockup that places the new front cover itself on top of a kitchen worktop, by the way of borrowing certain elements of visual style that are commonly used in the works of Norfolk’s very own illustrator, Andy Smith.

The idea was to use as many different brush-styled fonts as possible to ensure that the final design reflected a look that is not only bouncy, but also retro and slightly quirky orientated.

Unlike Smith’s work, I decided to take on my own version of the visual style by pushing away from drop shadows, erosion textures, and dotted or striped patterns in the hopes of developing a more flatter and more modernistic look.

Notice how the verbal language of the design uses a relative amount of sarcasm and deadpan humour to both attract the viewer and put them off from watching the television at the same time. This in effect would condescend the magazine itself and the various genres of content that air on television itself.

So, be sure to tell me what you think in the comment section below!
