Mckibben Pneumatic Muscles are a form of linear actuator that when activated, generate substantial force, have quick return, and can be controlled with finite articulation.
Design for a feeling. Pulling inspiration from imagery that resonates on an emotional level not only drives aesthetic, but creates a foundation of cognitive queues that inspire others and evoke a sensation regardless if the product is kinetic or static.
Ideation led to a futuristic sneaker boot that uses McKibben Pneumatic Muscles to replicate Calf Muscles and Achilles Tendons to reduce wear on your muscles allowing you to run faster and jump higher. The pneumatic muscles are activated by an air bladder under the heel. On heel strike, the underfoot bladder compresses sending air up into the artificial muscle making it retract. During the propulsion phase of the running gait, as weight is relieved, the artificial muscle explosively re-pressurizes the bladder, replicating your calf and lower leg muscles.
