I had fun working on this, I'm a sucker for t-rex, and I think they areadorable despite their appetite for meat, so here we are, starting witha sketch, and filling it up with a pigment liner pen, for this I used.1 to .7, .1 is good for capturing details,it's also better if you getthe .05 one, you'll never miss every single detail on that.

Open the file to illustrator and we'll be stuck there from start 'til the end.
Click the image and click "Live Trace" on the options above, just clickthe OK button if you see this message, it's just fucking with you,that's it,hehe.
Now you can see some line details have gone fat a bit,dunno if CS5 hasa solution for that, ask adobe if they can live trace everythingwithout adding thickness on the original image's linework, but anywaysthis is much better than tracing it manually, so just bear with it ok,and stop complaining,haha! seriously it's fine, it's not as fat asJlo's ass, so it's good.
After Livetracing the linework, click "Expand" on the options above soyou can get all the paths,and now your linework becomes a vectorgraphic,Hooray!
Before you get busy with coloring it, make sure that there is no othercolor than the outline, so use the "Direct Selection Tool" (white arrowhead) and try clicking on the white portions, if it detected somepaths, then make sure you just selected that part.
So right now, all you can see is solid black, make sure that it's thetop layer so that you can place all colors on the layers below it, inshort, your linework is your top primary layer.
Since your linework now has been converted to a vector graphic, you can go and freely change the color.
Placing Linework as the top and primary layer, just lock it there,sothat you won't be able to accidentally tweak some paths, you can startadding layers for your colors, if you place different colors ondifferent layers, it will be much easier for you to change the colorsfrom time to time.
You can add shading colors on your vector, it's up to your artistictaste, but don't over do it if you have enough details. For this one, Ijust placed it on a few spots, specially on those parts with lessshadow details like the T-rex's eye balls.
If you feel like adding some highlights, go for it, i added a few on the skin, so that color details will come out too.
