M03 studio project - E_COU(L)TURE

Location: Dorćol, Belgrade, Serbia 

Belgrade Market Plaza is an architectural project of the first public market in the country to feature local, sustainable food production, distribution and consumption. It also features large gathering place, research facilities and commercial spaces, all supporting and promoting local agriculture and land conservation as well as reducing carbon emissions associated with food transportation. 

The design integrates public market with local fruits and vegetables grown on the sloped roof, along with local products brought from the other parts of the country. As well as commercial market place, the entire market is designed as a platform for public education and open space leisure activities. The roof plays a large part in the design idea – along with fruits and vegetables, there are sloped pathways and open public spaces which provide spontaneous and interesting contact with the whole theme about local food culture. 

The market district therefore provides new and interesting experiences for this location, reviving the forgotten part of the old town, drawing and connecting visitors and residents with the mutual motive we all enjoy – cuisine.
