Commuting Senses
Series of pictograms
Every week, the free Belgian newspaper Metro has published weekend-style articles on lifestyle and fashion. In one of its opening sections, a commuter is interviewed about his or her (six) senses and how it affects their everyday lives. To go with these weekly articles, I designed a series of pictograms.
The inspiration behind the drawings is the hexagon. This shape can be found throughout the Weekend edition, as it serves to announce the sections. Soft pastels work best in print applications, but flashy colors highlight the contrasts on screens and displays.
The colors are chosen according to the photo used in the article, either picking up on a detail or contrasting it completely to bring life to the often dull newspaper print quality.
