I am proud to finally be able to show my concept work for "ROBO RECALL". Epic Games reached out to me last year and asked me if i could help designing some robots for their first VR title. Epic! Unreal! You can't say no to that! I had a blast working together with so much talent! Below are the concept developments for all the robots appearing in the game...enjoy!
THE CRAWLER
The Crawler is the smallest and kind of the pet of the bunch. Pretty straight forward design... a crawling, 4-legged spider-drone. This one only went through a silhouette and value phase and got built right away. The sticking up tail and the underfloor protector stayed up to the final models.
It has a handle too... i wonder what its for...

THE RUNNER
Next to the Flyer this was always my favorite character. Great fun to develop! As the second of the Fast-Bots he turned in to a two-legged Runner. Always influenced by Meerkats and Athletes. From time to time even a bit birdlike. After the silhouettes we decided to push this one into the direction of a super-athlete kind of robot. Everything is built for speed. Lightweight body, small head, thin arms but huge thighs with artificial muscles. As we kept increasing the thigh volume, the whole robot became more female and female. We didnt mind that... so i guess this is the girl of the bunch.

THE BIPED
And here he is... the star of the game! If you played it, you know what i mean... there is a ton of them!!! Poor Bastards...:) This one was always supposed to be the most humanoid one of the bunch. We wanted him to be a bad ass but at the same time not to be too serious ... as the whole tone of the game is arcady and fun.

THE FLYER
This guy was always supposed to be the weird guy. As one part of the fast moving bots next to the runner he came out of my initial silhouettes for the fast bot. He was supposed to be a mix of a mortar, a jet pack and somehow there was always a lot of monkey in him. When flying pretty quick and hard to hit and when standing, basically being immobile like a mortar.

THE BIGBOT
The BigBot was always supposed to be the huge chunky guy that you don't want to mess with. Two or three times the size of a human/biped. From the silhouettes we decided to go with the straight boxy shoulders and the shields on the knees. On him, it was hard to implement some kind of textile. We played around with actual vests and jackets but never where really happy. At some point i just made his upper arms covered by a kind of truck tarp. I like how he turned out in the end!
