Dollhouse
As a nature photographer in the beginning I yearned to capture and share the deceptive beauty of the world in which we exist. As I have evolved as an artist and a person I have made many realizations that my art has conformed to in an effort to study the basic perceptions we all have as creatures on this strange planet.
My photographs, although they may resemble basic scenes or situations, aim to raise anxiety and question in mind of the viewer on a personal basis. Some consider perception, reality, whilst others consider it strictly personal observation. The perception of death or darkness is a common theme throughout my work, although the same photographs remind some of a happy memory or place they have been. I enjoy photographing things that force the viewer to confront things that most fear such as death and decay. The more one places themselves within the unfamiliar, the more they can accept and embrace it.
Dollhouse examines the perceptions of child and adulthood. In Dollhouse I photographed a number of pieces of dollhouse furniture that I amused myself with as child and placed them into ordinary landscapes. As a child, our perceptions of “reality” are unshaped and twisted yet as we make our journey into adulthood we lose our desire for simulating life because we are in it. Dollhouse is my artistic example of how something that seemed so important and big at one time in your life is now completely insignificant.
