"That's Not Funny" // Pamphlet

Last year, The Atlantic published a piece by Caitlin Flanagan on comedians performing on the college circuit, and the polarizing topic of political correctness. In the article, she frequently evokes themes of censorship, and describes the student populations as complacent and without agency, using the metaphor of farm animals (at times, describing the student populations as "herds").

I laid out the piece in the spirit of pamphlets of Free Speech Movement, circulated on the college campuses of the 1960s (a piece of history that Flanagan herself references in her essay). These pamphlets often had a densely packed, two-column layout using spare serif typefaces, and titles set using bold, narrow sans-serif typefaces. I used found imagery of farm animals and herds and bold graphic elements (thick bars and circles) to highlight Flanagan's pointed use of language.
